UFO encounter in our backyard?
by Paul Erskin
Did a Lowery woman disappear not just once but twice?
On the heels of World War II, the United States was gripped by a new terror: would our next enemy come from the stars? Flying saucers, the Roswell incident, and Area 51 kicked off a mad panic, so is it any surprise that Lowery was wrapped up in the hysteria?
Rumor has it that, at an old town council meeting, an unknown woman (I could not find her name for the life of me) claimed she had been abducted by an alien with eyes that shone in the dark like fire.
While hanging laundry outside, the woman saw what she assumed to be a car’s headlights joy-riding across a large field. The lights swerved left and right, glided over her, and then briefly froze in place before slowly doubling back to focus on her. Like a predator locking in on prey, the lights gradually drove nearer and nearer.
It was then that the woman discovered the unseen “car” was something else entirely. Reportedly, the two headlights suddenly drifted apart, each traveling in a separate direction, effectively flanking the woman from two sides, before moving in to converge upon her. That’s when it all went black.
The next thing the woman knew, she was falling to the forest floor, suffering a rough landing among leaves and rocks. After running home, she reported that she had experienced “lost time” during which she had been abducted into an alien craft and later dropped once the beings were done with her.
It’s hard to picture the scene as the woman told her tale to the town council. Did anyone believe her? She had come to the council meeting to complain that the police weren’t taking her seriously. Admittedly, it’s very hard to do so. The way I heard it, she had been making all kinds of weird claims about aliens for a while. The local crazy lady.
With only the recollections of old-timers to flesh out the story, we may never know what really happened. The only thing we seem to know is that the woman eventually fled the town, perhaps to escape ridicule for telling such an outlandish story so publicly… Or perhaps to avoid another close encounter.
What scares me most is another possible reason for her sudden vanishing: that she was abducted once again. This time unable to escape.
Or hey, maybe it’s all just a fun scary story from a time in history when just about everyone had a story to tell about aliens.
What’s more plausible to you?

Someone has to remember her name. Or at least where she lived do you can use public records to look her up. You have to find out if she disappeared or just moved.
Do any of the Bone King stories talk about glowing eyes? Maybe she encountered him in the woods. She could be one of his first victims. You should look into this more!
